Education Department Unveils 2014’s Green Ribbon Schools

May 28, 2014- The Department of Education recently announced its Green Ribbon Schools, which recognizes 57 schools and school districts across the country for their green initiatives.

The 48 schools and nine districts each exceled across the three pillars of this award: minimized building impact and cost savings, improved occupant health and wellness, and effective education for sustainability.

The announcement marks a moment of growth in the green schools movement. ED-GRS has created a common definition for a green school that unites the education, health and environmental communities to work toward the same goals. Whether a school is public or private or has a significant number of low-income students, the initiative provides a model for any school interested in improving sustainability.
