Downers Grove to Plant 375 Trees in 2013

January 25, 2013 - The village of Downers Grove will plant 375 trees in 2013. A western Chicago suburb, the village has partnered with the Suburban Tree Consortium for more than 25 years.

The consortium helps suburban communities purchase and plant through partnerships with local nurseries. This year, Downers Grove plans to plant 375 trees at a cost of $120,000. A majority of the trees will be used to replace dead or ruined trees by storms. Some will be planted in new locations.

51 of the trees will be used to replace those affected by the Emerald Ash Borer Infection. EAB is an exotic beetle that attacks ash trees.

Maple, ash and honeylocust trees will make up more than half of the 375 trees that will be planted.
