D.C is Creating a Sustainable 'Living Building'

January 31, 2013 - The District of Columbia is planning to build the cities first sustainable ‘living building’. D.C joined a green certification program that promotes the highest level of architectural sustainability.

The city created “The Living Building Challenge” which focused on seven aspects of the site such as location, water, energy use, health, materials, social equity and beauty. The ultimate goal is to create a building that is not only environmentally friendly but also pleasant to use.

The challenge is one of 12 pilot programs to win a total of $4.5 million in grants from D.C’s 2013 budget.
