CCA Conducts Inspection for Petroleum Refining Company

November 8, 2012 - CCA recently conducted a thorough inspection of an international petroleum refining company in the Chicago area that included: a noise survey, water testing and asbestos assessment. The inspections took place over more than 400,000 square feet of building space during the months of September, October and November of this year.

CCA’s work included:

  • Monitoring noise levels in all mechanical areas to determine if the company’s hearing conservation program was compliant with applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Taking water samples from about 200 locations, including water fountains, sinks, eye-washing stations, food preparation areas and other locations. Water samples were then tested for lead and copper to determine if water was below EPA action levels.
  • Inspecting for asbestos contamination to identify locations and conditions and to evaluate the potential for disturbance of the asbestos. The goal is to ensure materials are properly identified, in good condition and to minimize the potential for damage by building occupants, maintenance employees or contractors performing work at the facility.

Asbestos inspections identified materials that either needed repair or could potentially become damaged. Evaluations of noise levels confirmed that some areas were compliant, while others needed to make adjustments to comply with the company's hearing conservation program.
