Apple Reverses Environmental Decision

November 14, 2012 - Apple recently reversed its decision to withdraw from the EPEAT registry – a set of environmental standards for tech products, Mashable reported.

Apple changed its course and announced in a letter from Bob Mansfield, senior VP of engineering, that it was responding to Apple customers, who were disappointed to learn that Apple had removed its products from the EPEAT rating system. All eligible Apple products are now back on the registry.

The EPEAT registry requires that companies make products that can be disassembled and repaired by consumers. This is so the computer-recycling process (which often takes place in China) is less likely to let toxic substances leach into the environment.
