All But Three Orange County Schools Cleared of Asbestos

November 14, 2014- After being tested for asbestos, most schools in an Orange County district pose no threat to students and will stay open, California officials said.

However, three elementary schools in the Huntington Beach district, will remain closed for as long as two months while asbestos is removed from classrooms.

The campuses were closed last month when asbestos was detected during a modernization project. The closures left parents furious and forced more than 1,600 students to be bused to eight different school districts.

But the coastal Ocean View School District received good news when recent tests showed that most schools had an "insignificant" level of asbestos in the air. Still, all classrooms were deep-cleaned, officials said.
