CSI will Hold a Discussion On Classroom Safety In Today’s Environment

March 25, 2013- As Educators and Politicians focus on the actual physical building aspects of school safety, please keep in mind the following cause and effects:

Windows, corridors or hallways that may be closed off, that are now used for natural ventilation, may alter/reduce air changes and/or air flow within your structures. Indoor Air Quality may suffer as a result. Some older areas of your building that are renovated may contain Asbestos or Lead materials that are disturbed, and might become airborne during construction.

On Wednesday March, 27th the Northern, IL CSI Chapter will hold a teleconference roundtable discussing classroom safety in today’s environment.

The discussion to taking part due to the Illinois State Legislation that is currently pending, Senate Bill 1931 which creates the School Security and Standards Task Force and Senate Bill 1932 which requires a local school board to consult with law enforcement and security experts in the design and planning stages of the construction of any new school building or any additions to or major remodeling of an existing school building.

The presenters will be Bill Zientarski, CSI, CDT with Hi-Performance Glazing Solutions, manufacturer’s representative for Viracon glass products and Safti First fire rated products.

The topics that will be covered during the discussion are:

  • Forced entry glazing
  • Egress window in each class room to exterior
  • Bullet resistant save haven in each class room
  • Forced entry doors
  • Hardware including electronic lock down
  • Approximated cost impact
